International Workshop on Rapid Change Phenomena
in Tropical Cyclones
(Haikou China, November 5-9, 2012)
The Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) is pleased to announce that the International Workshop on Rapid Change Phenomena in Tropical Cyclones will be held at Haikou city, Hainan province, China from November 5-9, 2012.
The workshop is organized by the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) and co-organized by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and China Meteorological Administration (CMA). The workshop will be a forum for discussions of new ideas and recent research findings in the science and operational forecasting of rapid change phenomena in tropical cyclones.
The overarching scientific objectives of the workshop are to improve the theoretical understanding and forecast capability of the rapid change phenomena in tropical cyclones and also stimulate future research work in this field. The workshop will also cover a range of topics (observations, prediction, research and field programs etc.) related to the rapid change phenomena in tropical cyclone.
The workshop will include invited lectures, contributed papers and poster sessions. Invited papers will give overviews of problems, progress and prospects in key areas. Contributed papers are welcome on all aspects of the subject. The workshop will shed light on the following topics.
(a) Sudden change of tropical cyclone tracks
(b) Rapid change of tropical cyclone structure and intensity
(c) Rainfall Reinforcement related to rapid changes in landfalling tropical cyclones
(d) Forecast techniques of rapid change events with tropical cyclones
(e) Field experiment results related to tropical cyclone rapid changes
(f) Disaster impact arise from tropical cyclone rapid changes
Authors are invited to submit high quality extended abstract in all the above-mentioned topics. Travel support for this event will be extremely limited and are available only to presenters and invited speakers who are early career and distinguished scientists from the countries influenced by tropical cyclones.
All abstracts are to be submitted electronically:

cc: Duan yihong<Duanyihong@cma.gov.cn>,
Wang xuan<wangxuan@cams.cma.gov.cn>,

We recommend single-column format, single-spaced 12-pt Arial font and A4 paper. An 8-page extended abstract is required for invited speakers and 5 pages for contributed papers. The extended abstract could include color/black & white figures, tables as well as bibliographies. Please mark with bold letters in the left top corner of the first page of your extended abstract the topic with the letter of alphabet (from the six given) of your paper.
The deadline for submission of all abstracts (both invited and contributed papers) is August 20, 2012. All abstracts will be reviewed by the International Organizing Committee (IOC). An e-mail notification will be sent to the presenting authors of acceptance/non-acceptance of the abstract by September 20, 2012. A list of accepted papers/posters and the workshop programs will be available on the workshop website by September 30, 2012.
